The Bridge: Balance Through the Arch
This piece explores the encounter between a supporting structure and the unstable tube glass. A curved nickel silver plate forms an arch, at the center of which the Kiddush cup rests.
In this configuration, only a single edge of the tube brushes the ground, creating a minimal, almost immaterial point of contact. Stability is no longer an intrinsic certainty of the object, but the result of an alliance: the tube’s fragility finds its support and strength in the protective curve of the base.
The Concept
The design is built on the idea of mutual support. The arch does not merely carry; it frames and steadies a structure that, on its own, would falter.
Minimal Point of Contact: The technical challenge was to maintain equilibrium while the tube touches the ground at only one single point.
Controlled Stability: The tension between the straight line and the curve creates a visual and mechanical stability, where each element is vital to the other.
Aesthetics
A graphic and airy silhouette. The arch becomes a bridge between ritual and matter, offering a sculptural presence to the Shabbat table.
